Ahmad Mohsen, 24, sits in a shop selling prepaid internet access cards in Deir el-Balah. Three years ago, before Israel’s war on Gaza began, he imagined a different future. He had graduated with a degree in nursing and was preparing to complete the procedures required to obtain his professional licence. He dreamed of working in a hospital, pursuing a master’s degree, or taking specialised courses.

During the first months of the war, Mohsen worked as a volunteer at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah, amid large numbers of wounded and dead. However, the lack of pay eventually led him to look for other work.“I got tired, and I wasn’t being paid for my efforts, so I started looking for another job that would give me at least a small income,” he said. “A candidate should put themselves in the people’s place and speak with the people’s voice, not someone else’s voice. They should speak for us—the young people who have been wronged for 20 years through wars and destruction. There needs to be an end to this,” he said.

An Israeli air attack on a residential apartment in Gaza City has killed at least five Palestinians and severely wounded six others, according to medical staff. The strike hit a building early on Saturday without prior warning, burying people under the rubble as they slept.

Members of an Israeli media contingent heckled Republic of Ireland head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson during his news conference ahead of the UEFA Nations League football match, causing the conference to end abruptly amid growing political tensions and protests over the fixture. The attacker was not officially identified, but media reports quoting unnamed sources said he was an Omani national named Hamam al-Hammami.“What do you say about the people that you support? Their ideology is based on murder,” the journalist asked, purportedly referring to Ireland’s stance on Palestine and attempting to link it to the aviation incident.“Control of the Atlantic has always been closely linked to control of its northern approaches,” Jenkins said.

Norway’s defeat in World War II gave the Nazis control of the coastline and deep-water fjords, from which they were able to threaten Allied shipping lanes in the Atlantic, Jenkins said.Today, the importance of Norway and the Greenland-Iceland-UK Gap remains undiminished.

“The Norwegian Sea, the Arctic and the northern approaches are not distant theatres. They are the gateway to our backyard; they form our open-sea border with Russia. They are where British security, NATO and European stability come together. And it is also where the JEF makes an increasingly important contribution,” he said.

Russia has stepped up pressure on Ukraine’s allies, summoning Britain’s top diplomat in Moscow over arms shipments to Kyiv and seizing Russian assets belonging to several Western firms. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Britain’s chargé d’affaires, Danae Dholakia, on Friday, issuing a formal protest over the UK’s “further increase” in weapons shipments to Ukraine.
