A peace plan promoted by US President Donald Trump has run into a major roadblock after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formally rejected the 15-point proposal. Netanyahu’s position is unequivocal: Israel will not order the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to withdraw from Gaza unless Hamas is completely and genuinely disarmed. The Israeli prime minister has criticized what he described as “fictitious disarmament,” arguing that Israel’s security cannot depend on promises alone.
The development comes after Hamas indicated that it was prepared to engage seriously with Trump’s proposal, provided Israel also accepted the framework.
